Habitat’s vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity (CPHfH)is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, International, (HFHI) a non-profit, all race, all religion organization that provides opportunities for home ownership for low income families.
In the summer of 1992, a group of concerned Peninsula citizens came together to form an affiliate. The COHfH was officially approved that year and was incorporated in Alaska as a non-profit corporation. The local affiliate partners with selected families within the central peninsula area. Together homes are built. Habitat for Humanity is committed to the ideal that all people deserve a simple, decent place to live on terms they can afford to pay. With the assistance of many individuals and organizations such as churches, businesses, and traveling volunteer groups, Central Peninsula Habitat has completed 18 homes.
Homes are built using tax-deductible contributions of land materials and money, the labor of volunteers, and the “Sweat equity” labor of the new home-owner family. Each family must contribute a minimum of 500 hours during the building of the home. Homes are sold to the families at cost with a no-interest mortgage loan. Families are selected on the basis of housing need, willingness to partner with Habitat and the ability to repay the loan. Mortgage payments received from homeowners are recycled directly into a revolving fund used for the construction of additional homes on the Peninsula.read more
